Your Willingness To Take Risks
Actor Will Smith, in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, said, “Greatness lives on the edge of destruction, and the reason someone is great is that they have survived death.” Will Smith could easily have been describing Sir Richard Branson.
If you think about it, what this statement really means is, that the challenges we face will test us. They show us what we’re made of. Most challenges provide us with the opportunity to see that we are far greater than we ever think we are.
What you need to evaluate is: do you have what it takes to pursue your goals, regardless of your circumstances? Are you willing to give up your excuses and stop yelling, “The sky is falling?”
Entrepreneurs consistently encounter tough situations. Staring into the face of failure, our backs against the wall, we might whimper for a moment but manage to dig deep into an inner reserve to gain the strength needed to conquer the fear and get back on top.
Learning to be a business rock star is a matter of extending that principle. You need the intention and the will to push yourself to take the leap to greatness. You cannot be in the mindset of waiting for something to go wrong. Instead of aiming to just survive a looming threat, you need to aim for outrageous success.
French poet and playwright Guillaume Apollinaire had this to say about making such a leap:
“Come to the edge. We can’t. We’re afraid.
Come to the edge. We can’t. We will fall!
Come to the edge. And they came. And he pushed them.
And they flew.”
Take Action: are you ready to take a leap? Are you willing to leave your comfort zone: that warm, cozy, and nurturing place you might have been occupying for some time?
This week see how willing you are to take a leap of faith.
